Life is a tragedy

Tragedy of life

There are two topics that I usually stay away from because they cause so much animosity and hatred between people – religion and politics. Somehow many people believe that both should integrate with each other but as we have seen too many times this is a cause for so much division in the world. I strongly believe that both religion and politics are a cancer bestowed upon this world.

Almost twenty years ago my son was born and at the time I believed that the future would be better — brighter. That we would overcome years of wars, hatred, climate change, hunger, infighting and greed. I believed that people would do better and that the world would be a place for growth, love, acceptance and prosperity. I was young and naively optimistic about the state of the world.

Eventually President Obama was elected and it seemed that the U.S. was at a turning point. That life would be moving in the right direction and years of oppression and hatred would cease to exist. I believed that rights for all human beings would be protected and that we would all be moving forward to a brighter day. I was wrong.

After my son died I believed that science would one day cure the awful disease that took his life. I naively believed that people actually cared about sick children. That all of those foundations and charities actually stood for something and not just another tax write off for whichever charity was spearheading the effort. Sadly, in the end I learned that children are not that important to most people. Children’s lives became a wedge issue for politicians. Just look at the abortion issue. Politicians don’t actually care about children after they’re born. They lie, cheat and spill lies on the ill informed public. Pediatric Cancer research as a whole will never make true progress or make any inroads until we elect representatives  who believe in science and who want to actually help those less fortunate. Don’t believe me? If you’ve ever had a sick child (especially in the state of Florida) you’ll never understand the pain of watching your child die knowing that the state will never do anything to protect your innocent child. Just look at the politicians who represent Florida.

After all of these years I have learned that people are inherently bigoted, full of hate, racist, don’t care about the environment and do not care about fellow human beings. Those of us who do are the minority. Money, power and greed is what fuels most people’s desires and some are often so evil that nothing stops them. Many people in this country use religion and money as a tool for backing political candidates who do not have their best interest at heart and that’s just tragic.

I have never been more disappointed than I am now with my fellow Americans. This election was not about the man who is about to have infinite power again. He was just a lucky con man who got away with the biggest heist in American history and in the end he’s a product of what this country was all along – racist. The chaos that is about to ensue on people’s lives is something that could have been avoided but in the end we get what we deserve.

Finally, anyone with young children (especially girls) and who voted to place a criminal thug in office should do some soul searching as the future of your children is now lost. I fear for my children and their future.
